Japanese Compacta Holly has a mounding growth habit that requires minimum pruning to keep its shape. They are evergreen which makes them an excellent choice for a hedge or border. Compacta Holly can be pruned in a pyramidal shape and placed in containers as a centerpiece. When planting this Holly, dig the hole twice as wide as the pot and mix rich garden soil in with your native soil, then leave the top of the root ball 1/2 inch above the ground level when filling the hole with soil. Use a slow release granular fertilizer in Spring.
